Rhizorot Mycelorrum
The Grandfather of Spores
The oldest known Sporeling and one of the oldest living beings known to the peoples of the modern age. No record exists of his birth. By all accounts, Rhizorot predates the Fracture Cataclysm itself — and perhaps much more besides.
“The oldest roots grow deepest.”
— Rhizorot Mycelorrum
✦Overview
Rhizorot Mycelorrum, known throughout the Twilight Forest as The Grandfather of Spores, is the oldest known Sporeling and one of the oldest living beings known to the peoples of the modern age.
No record exists of his birth. No chronicle can say with certainty how old he truly is. By all accounts, Rhizorot predates the Fracture Cataclysm itself, and perhaps much more besides.
Though revered by Sporelings across the Twilight Forest, he holds no title of rulership and claims no authority over any community. He is not a king, nor a priest, nor a prophet. He is simply Rhizorot, an elder whose roots have endured longer than memory.
✧Appearance
Rhizorot stands far taller than any ordinary Sporeling, towering over most mortals at nearly twice the height of a man.
His immense body resembles a walking fragment of the forest itself. Bark-like fungal flesh forms his frame, while vast shelf mushrooms emerge from his shoulders and back. Moss, lichen, and delicate glowing fungi cling to him naturally, and small creatures often mistake him for part of the woodland around him.
Many travelers who encounter Rhizorot for the first time believe him to be a tree, a statue, or some ancient spirit of the forest until he begins to move.
◈Residence
Rhizorot dwells deep within the Twilight Forest in an ancient grove known to Sporelings as the Rootheart Grove.
The grove is formed from colossal trees whose roots and branches have grown together over countless generations, creating a living sanctuary beneath the perpetual twilight.
Sporelings from distant communities often make pilgrimages to the grove to seek wisdom, share stories, or simply pay respects to the oldest of their kind.
◇Personality
Despite his age and renown, Rhizorot possesses little interest in power. He is patient, thoughtful, and remarkably approachable — treating kings and commoners, scholars and wanderers, with equal courtesy.
Patient & Thoughtful
He does not rush to conclusions. His wisdom often takes the form of questions rather than answers, and those willing to reflect upon his words frequently discover meaning long after the conversation has ended.
Approachable
Despite his age and renown, he treats kings and commoners, scholars and wanderers, with equal courtesy. He holds no title of rulership and claims no authority.
Vague About Himself
He speaks openly about many things, but becomes strangely vague whenever discussions turn to his own age or earliest memories. His most common answer: 'Older than my memory.'
Disinterested in Power
He possesses little interest in authority or command. He is not a king, nor a priest, nor a prophet. He is simply Rhizorot, an elder whose roots have endured longer than memory.
⊕Memory and Age
Like all Sporelings, Rhizorot carries fragments of inherited memory passed down through generations.
Unlike any other known Sporeling, however, he has accumulated so many layers of memory that the boundary between personal experience and ancestral recollection has long since blurred.
He remembers events that may have happened thousands of years ago, yet struggles to place them in any meaningful order. Many scholars have attempted to question him regarding ancient history. Most leave with more questions than answers.
⋄The Lost Name
Rhizorot Mycelorrum is not believed to be his original name.
According to Sporeling tradition, his true name was once far longer, carrying meanings and memories from an age before recorded history. Over countless generations, fragments of that name were forgotten, translated, shortened, and lost.
Only Rhizorot himself might remember it. If he does, he has never spoken it.
“A root may remember the seed. The seed does not remember itself.”
— Rhizorot Mycelorrum, when asked his true name
✧Significance
To the peoples of the Twilight Forest, Rhizorot represents continuity. He is living proof that memory endures, that life persists through change, and that even the oldest roots continue to grow.
Though many outsiders seek him for answers about forgotten ages, most Sporelings understand his importance differently.
